Files that are required for windows to run properly have been replaced?

After installing a software package, you may encounter an error stating Files that are required for windows to run properly have been replaced. This happens if the package has overwritten the protected Windows system files with older or unsigned versions of the file. Windows XP's system file protection senses this automatically and prompts you with the error.

What you need to do is, cancel the dialog, then insert your Windows XP CD-ROM into the drive and run SFC /Scannow from Command Prompt window. To access Command Prompt, type CMD.EXE in Start, Run dialog. SFC Scannow procedure will take a considerable amount of time to finish.
